Lara Logan Treats Her PSTD With Diazepam and Red Wine

A good, strong media-grrl, Lara Logan shows us the way….following her gang-rape in Tarir ‘Square’ by a mob of crazy Egyptians, engaged in’ Arab Spring’ demonstrations. Perhaps she wants to show us that the trauma of gang-rape is do-able. She sucks it up and heads out on her missions as CBS foreign correspondent, with the help of diazepam and red wine. As we know, diazepam (Valium)is a rather long acting benzodiazepine, so she might retain the effects of the active metabolites of this drug for days after her pre-mission doping. One astute comment followed the story below, suggesting that Ms. Logan should be engaged in different journalistic pursuits until she is able to deal with these trips to other countries without self medicating, for her own sake, as well as that of others.
Pharmer suggests that CBS is still abusing Lara Logan, and obtaining benefit from it.

Lefties at NYT decry for-profit health care institutions

Health Care and Pursuit of Profit Make a Poor Mix – NYTimes.com.

If you’re feeling bulimic today, you can read (above) a leftist, Eduardo Porter, telling us that profit and health care don’t mix.

Health care professionals are supposed to do their work for free.   Profit is evil and the motivation for making money should not have any association with health care. How this leftie  expects to attract people to incur huge educational debt, and enter  into a very difficult field to work for nothing, is anyone’s guess.

There’s a claim in the NYT article  that a health care institution which switches from non-profit to for-profit is more likely to experience patient  deaths over subsequent two years.   The cited study admits that the shock of switching management and workers, and a myriad of other factors  could have much more to do with this effect than the mere acquisition of a profit motive. In fact, the effect of the staffing changes, and the patient mortality rate recedes after the initial shock of change.  This is a strong indicator that the mere profitability has nothing to do with the mortality rate, and that the shock of reorganization and personnel changes has everything to do with it.  The initial pressures of an institution to sell out to private investors is also discussed in the original study as a major factor.

The NYT also cites a 30 year old study of an unmentioned number of Southern Wisconsin nursing homes, and implied from the invisible data that for-profit institutions used higher doses of sedatives in their patients than the non-profits.

That the New York Times would try to convince you that health care workers and institutions should provide services for free, or at cost, is no surprise. That they would extrapolate the study results from religious affiliated non-profits, and pretend that government-run institutions would operate similarly is similarly  not a surprise.

It would, however, be a huge shock and surprise to see the leftie press calling for ABORTIONISTS to provide their services at cost, and take no profits.   There’s a fortune in abortion, and this is true for Planned Parenthood, which is excused from taxes as a supposed non-profit  (though it does make and report profit), as well as the multitudinous for-profit abortion industries. See an example of Planned Parenthood’s form 990.  Don’t ever hold your breath waiting for abortionists to be held to the same standards as real  health care providers.

You will NEVER hear a cry from the New York Times that Universities should cease to take profits,  or stop  paying their instructors and administrators well over the salaries and benefits of equally educated private sector employees.  You will never hear them ask that the salaries and benefits  of public school teachers be reduced to that of similarly educated private sector employees.

Those involved in furthering the agenda of the left will continue to reap profits and rewards well above the national average with the blessings of their media machine.  However, they won’t be satisfied until the rest of us, who provide essential goods and services, are working and living as slaves.

It’s because they don’t work, and people have to build their own!

Your friendly Pharmer has gotten notice that the Acer computer, which hasn’t been usable since it was purchased last November 1, has been shipped from its second trip to the repair shop.   Meanwhile, this little comment  is being plopped onto the website from the wonderful PC that Pharmer assembled at home.

Getting to the meat of the top linked article:  tablets are selling like hotcakes, but the expected bounce in PC sales that usually comes with the introduction of a new operating system did NOT happen.  Windows 8 failed to inspire.  This might be due to the extra cost of  big touch screens, which are needed to bring out the features of the new Microsoft OS.  Perhaps the tablets are getting powerful enough, more reliable, and more compatible with printers, so that people don’t see so much need for a PC.

Or maybe………….. the desktops and laptops that people are assembling at home are not being  included in the count.

Paul Bedard’s (Annual) Washington Secret

The Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard clues us in on the latest Washington Secret.  This one happens every year, but flies under the radar for most lamestream media attuned Americans.

This year will be the 40th annual March for Life, on Jan 25th, and hotel reservations for that event are outpacing those for Obama’s second inauguration.  Every year hundreds of thousands of people, mostly young people and students,  show up to re-energize their efforts for the pro-life cause.  This year the event organizers are expecting record crowds and are preparing for the youth oriented event with their first-ever use of jumbotrons along the route, a 5 K race, and many accompanying educational events. Check out the website HERE.

Bill Clinton, Father of the Year

Our social institutions have been reduced to parodies of themselves.  The National Fathers’ Day Council has named Bill Clinton as Father of the Year.

Bill has certainly amassed some interesting references on his curriculum vitae  for that honor:

Here’s an old story from Drudge about Danny WIlliams, of Arkansas, the son whom Clinton never recognized. Bobby Ann Williams tearfully told Paramount’s “Hard Copy” that her son, Danny, was fathered by Bill himself.

Gennifer Flowers recounted in her book “Passion and Betrayal” that Clinton paid for her abortion of their child.

Monica Lewinsky, Clinton’s  other famous mistress, assures us that the child she aborted was fathered by a pentagon employee, during a hiatus in her affair with the former president.

Linked here is  an interview given by Juanita Broaddrick who came forward to tell us that Bill Clinton raped her while he was Attorney General in Arkansas.

The National Fathers’ Day Council might assure us that Bill Clinton has  bolstered his daughter, Chelsea’s sense of self worth by his use and abuse of the myriad women in his life.

Obama Threatens Gun Ban Edict

Like so many dictators before him, Obama is threatening to bypass congress for his gun ban. The instrument for conveying Obama’s threats is Joe Biden    As usual, a crisis is being used to strengthen central governmental control.

Obama knows that Congress is too weak to stop him, and he doesn’t pay much attention to the judicial system.  The  rest of the government is too afraid of being called racist to enforce the law. More significantly,  these individuals are too afraid of being killed to lead opposition to Obama’s edicts.  Remember, we sent Chicago to Washington D.C., and now we have to pay the consequences.

Pharmer notes that only the citizenry  (subjects) will have to go without personal protection.  The governing class will retain their armed guards.

Acer Made Her Do It !!!

Pharm readers might have been wondering about the decline in posts Down on the Pharm. The computer hard drive had been trying to die for months, and it finally did. Before it died, your friendly Pharmer (on Nov 1, 2012)  purchased an Acer prebuilt computer from New Egg. It appeared to be a good buy, with plenty of speed for office use, and lots of memory. However………. Pharmer’s luck with computers ran out. In short, it appears from all the time spent with tech help, and the need to send it in for “repairs”, that the existing operating system,  (and 2 sets of recovery disks) for this computer, were not configured correctly to work  with the hardware. The Acer was unusable from day 1, and had to be sent out for “repair” for the second time on Dec 29, 2012. This second failure was the final impetus to drive the Pharmer to build her own rig. After some quick business, buying the individual components from Tiger Direct, (not a kit),  it’s up and running,  before the ACER came back from the shop. You can see Pharmer’s first build below.  She has entered new phase of life: Geek-O-Pause!

superfast...... it SCREAMS!!!.... could probably be considered a budget gamer.
Pharmer’s First Build
Acer AM3450-UR30P (PT.SHDP2.001) Desktop PC AMD Quad-Core Processor FX-4100(3.6GHz) 6GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity ATI Radeon HD 4250 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Acer’s Epic Fail

By the way…… Learn which ACER computer NOT to buy. It’s now out of stock at New Egg, but if you’re thinking about getting one of these elsewhere, build your own!

Later there will be some updates and a full description of what went into build number one, which appears to be running Windows 7 Home Premium very well on that solid state drive.

Journal News Hires Armed Guards – Will Their Names Get Published Also?

The Gannett owned Journal News of New York published a map showing names and locations of gun owners in Rockland and Putnam Counties. This fueled a vigorous backlash, including bloggers publishing the names and addresses of that news rag. A flood of negative mail and commentary has deluged the leftie press, shocking Editor Caryn A. McBride. As a result, the Journal News now has hired ARMED guards from New City’s RGA Investigations Company.

Pharmer is amused.
