Ken Salazar, the interior secretary who is blocking the oil drilling is being denied a salary raise until he allows drilling to resume in the Gulf. Sen David Vitter of Louisiana is spearheading this blockage. Salazar will just have to suffer along at $180,000 per year (20,000 less than most other cabinet secretaries) until he gives in.
