Mental hospital wants to release failed Reagan assassin John Hinckley Jr. – CNN.com, to live near his 85 year old mother.

While he’s on drugs, he probably lacks energy for planning an assassination, but once Hinckley (now 56)  is off his meds, he’ll probably find someone else to shoot.

Who’s whackier, the patients or the administrators at that hospital?

Operating St. Elizabeth’s  under the threat of Obama care has probably driven the hospital administrators stark raving mad.

Pharmer sez:  Hinckley needs to stay locked up.

Government lawyers objected to the request for the release saying: “There is recent evidence of deception toward his treating physicians as well as narcissism, both of which are significant risk factors for future violence.”

Deception and narcissism……… that sounds like most of our elected officials!

Rebecca Taylor,  author of the Mary Meets Dolly blog, comments on the reasons for medical tourism out of the United States for AUTOLOGOUS stem cell transplants.  These use the patients own cells, so there are no ethical restrictions in law regarding these procedures.  The road block for this kind of treatment is the FDA, which regards the treatment as a DRUG, and regulates it as such.

Chemical Abortion

Pro-lifers recognize surgical abortion as killing humans, but not all of them recognize the scope of the problem presenting as chemical abortion. Generally we  recognize  mifepristone, the chemical formerly known as RU-486. The initial name of the drug  stayed with us, (the same as with the Artist formerly known as Prince).  Mifepristone is best known in the U.S. for its function to kill unborn humans during the embryonic stage, up to 49 days of pregnancy, although it has other investigational uses.

Meet the TWINS!  Ulipristal acetate and Mifepristone.  As you can see, they’re not quite identical, but very close. Both are selective progesterone receptor modulators.


Mifepristone, RU-486 is the most regulated drug in the U.S. Pharmacists don’t dispense it. It’s supposed to be dispensed only by physicians, directly to patients. In China and other countries it has been used as a morning after pill, as well as a killer of later embryos and early fetuses.

Those astute drug companies knew that this drug would not sell as a morning after pill in the U.S. That’s why we have it’s TWIN, Ulipristal Acetate, approved  by the FDA  in August , 2010,  and brought to us in by Watson Pharmaceuticals in December of the same year.  Watson also distributes Next Choice, generic of the original form of Plan B.

At 0.5mg/kg, Ulipristal Acetate, marketed as ELLA, is usable as a morning after pill. It’s marketed as an inhibitor of ovulation, but the manufacturer admits that the operative mechanism depends on the timing of its use. Like RU-486, Ulipristone is an anti-progesterone. It stops the action of that hormone in the reproductive tract, inhibits proliferation of the endometrium, inhibits implantation, and kills the embryo.

Leftie Media: An Unreliable Source Regarding Medical Events

The tale of  Salon contributor  Mikki Kendall  getting an abortion to save her life serves as an example.

She relates a late term (20 weeks) gestational hemorrhage  (possibly from placenta abruptio, detachment of the placenta) and postulates  that an abortion was needed to save her life.

The trouble is that neither this nor other causes of late term  gestational bleeding  are  addressed with  abortion procedures.  If the bleeding cannot be stopped,  an emergency delivery, usually  by C-section, is done, and frequently  the baby is lost due to prematurity, or complications stemming from the condition of the mother.

The patient admits to being incompetent to sign permission for surgery,  due to her medical condition.   Her memory of events also appears to be significantly impaired.

Another important note  is that  hospital records and discourse  utilize the term “abortion” for any end to a pregnancy which involves the baby’s demise prior to birth.   This includes  natural causes,  result of injury or disease, and purposely  induced abortions.  This is possibly what has led to the notion that a surgical abortion procedure was involved in this case.

If accuracy in describing Kendall’s  treatment was desired,  medical records could have been utilized  in order to correctly relate what had occurred in her treatment.

Instead,  the procedure is described simply as an abortion, and utilized by Salon for the political purpose of  generating a feeling of need for  induced  abortions.

This hospital pharmacist can attest that it is quite possible to enter an emergency room which does not have a physician present who can manage late term gestational bleeding.  In that case, a physician who can handle the situation is called in.   Normally a physician arriving late in the evening under emergent conditions is not accompanied  by  her own “cadre of students“.

This particular Salon story serves mainly as  a means to propagandize the wonders of  induced abortion to those who don’t  know how  late term gestational bleeding  is  properly managed.

Ectopic to the MAX

Phoenix woman gives birth to baby she carried in abdomen.

Nicolette Soto was able to carry an ectopic pregnancy and deliver a live baby  at 32 weeks.  The delivery of Azelan Cruz Perfecto , weighing in at 2 lb, 14 oz,  occurred at Banner Good Samaritan hospital in Phoenix, AZ.

This kind of success is unexpected, and most women will have the embryo  (with surrounding structures)  removed, or  have the embryo killed using methotrexate.  Under most circumstances of ectopic pregnancy,  a rupture will occur which could result in the death of the mother.

The article does not describe well the location of the fetus in this case.  Here’s the quote:

“Doctors said the pregnancy is rare.  They were still determining where the egg first implanted itself and where it grew outside the uterus, Holloway said.

Surgeons believe Soto had a corneal (sic) pregnancy, where the egg grew just outside the uterus. The area is surrounded by walls that are not supposed to stretch enough to accommodate a baby, said Rodney Edwards, one of Soto’s surgeons at Good Samaritan.”

Perhaps technology will one day permit  routinely moving ectopic embryos to a safer location in the uterus,  allowing them to continue to develop.

The Dangers of Bath Salts – to Goats!

Ever heard of Khat? A natural product for dopers, it contains cathinone, a whacky drug, of the chemical name: S-2-amino-phenyl-l-propanone. People who are accustomed to looking at these drug names see stimulant, upper, speed-like, written all over this one, and it elicits effects similar to ephedrine and amphetamines.

There are always more designer drugs being produced, to the extent that the law can’t keep pace regulating the doper chemists. The name Bath Salts is used to describe a class of drugs containing cathinone and analogs thereof, for example:
3,4 – Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV)
4 – Methylmethcathinone (Mephedrone, 4-MMC)
3,4 – Methylenedioxymethcathinone (Methylone, MDMC)
4 – Fluoromethcathinone (Flephedrone, 4-FMC)
3 – Fluoromethcathinone (3-FMC)
4 – Methoxymethcathinone (Methedrone, bk-PMMA, PMMC)
among others…

Any combination of these analogs could send the user into a wild state of agitation, perhaps with hallucinations, and even lust for goats!
Such is the sad end for a cute little pygmy goat in South Charleston, West Virginia, who was attacked by one Mark Thompson, killed and possibly sexually assaulted, (given the presence of porn, and the partially unclothed state of the attacker).

Thompson, now of international notoriety, is bound for a life of ill treatment in prison after this escapade, which is said to be fueled by a three day jag on “bath salts”.

Don’t do bath salts.

Retraction Watch: Eminent Surgeon Censored and Punished for Editorializing on the Salutary Effects of Semen

Forget chocolate on Valentine’s Day, try semen, says Surgery News editor. Retraction, resignation follow « Retraction Watch.

Dr. Lazar Greenfield, an eminent surgeon and inventor has been drummed out of his position as Editor in Chief of the ACS (American College of Surgeons)  for having too much fun while writing an editorial.

He noted a study concluding that women who use condoms, and abstinent women suffer more depression than women who do not use condoms during sex, and related it to the salutary components found in semen, and the efficiency of the vaginal mucosa as an avenue of drug delivery.

His offense was to ruffle the feathers of the feminazis by stating that semen may confer myriad chemical benefits, and to  imply that this is one reason that women really need men.

The ACS, afflicted by overdoses of estrogen, and without a sense of the hormone’s  utility,  has ‘temporarily’  removed the entire issue containing Greenfield’s editorial from its website.

Pharmer pasted her own comment to the news article at Retraction Watch:

Both sex and abstinence are very good, in their respective ‘seasons’.  It’s likely that depression during abstinence is  more frequently  from a loss of hope in finding a worthwhile partner, and exacerbated by a lack of  good memories to fall back on.

Theories that the offended censors are dwelling in a prolonged stage of hopelessness are not without basis.

Greenfield’s take on the evidence for physiological bases of sex attraction is hilarious, and should not have been removed, nor should he have been otherwise punished.

The humorless lefties who hate the existence of  sexual dimorphism  should not be permitted to rule over the rest of us, who appreciate it.

Pharmer would have been expecting  comparative clinical trials  of chocolate by oral delivery vs. vaginal instillation of semen  (normal  sex)  for antidepressant efficacy,  had the PC police not clamped down with their suppression of scientific inquiry.

Recycling Gone Wild – Flu vaccine syringes!

Children told to be tested for HIV after flu vaccines reused | 9news.com.

People have caught the ‘green bug’ — an infection with  enthusiasm for recycling.  This has extended into health care environments where some inappropriate recycling can be observed.

For example certain plastics and containers are recycled, or inappropriately transferred from patient  rooms to be reused in other patient rooms.   This is a danger for the spread of infection, and the rampant spread of  staph and clostridium infections may be resulting from this and other bad practices. Some health care employees cannot be dissuaded from these practices.

Above linked is a news story about a pediatric clinic in Colorado, (Med Peds Clinic of Fort Collins) where some enterprising employee decided to recycle half used   syringe doses of flu vaccine.

Those syringes (to a normal health care worker) are single use items.  Even if it had been appropriate to use half of the dose, the remainder should have been tossed out  in the biohazardous waste.

Instead the  medical assistant changed the needles on the syringe and recycled.

So…….  a lot of kids have apparently received half flu doses, and may have been exposed to infection from other patients.   There is a practice  of pulling back a bit  on the syringe, when injecting a vaccine, to make sure it’s not being shot directly into a blood vessel.

Dr Mark S. Simmons of the clinic stated :  “we are a little dismayed that one of our former medical assistants did not follow procedures when handling this” Recommendations from the clinic are that patients who received the vaccines be tested for  HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, (etc.)   There is not a mention of who would cover this expense.

Some things shouldn’t be recycled.

Odd News – Useless Self Damage

This is stupid enough to be an urban legend, but after reading  the E-Medicine review of foreign bodies found in the lowest end of the GI tract,  you’ll  know that people are crazy enough to try anything.

The top linked story relates a supposed practice of attempting to become drunk using vodka soaked tampons.
Given that even the super plus size does not hold very much liquid, the possibility of achieving even a micro-buzz from such a practice seems remote, even if pure grain alcohol were used. That would be very painful and even more damaging than using vodka.

This idea  falls  under the heading of self abuse, and the risk to tender mucous membranes most certainly outweighs the supposed “benefit”.

Morbidly obese man found fused to chair he sat in for two years dies in hospital | Mail Online.

This one is from Bellaire, Ohio…. where a morbidly obese man had become fused to his chair, in a matrix of his skin, feces, urine and maggots.

His girlfriend had undertaken to feed him by hand since he had become too big to leave the chair.   The man apparently refused to accept medical help for an arthritic condition in his knees which had made it impossible for him to ambulate.

The individual, yet to be named was finally found unconscious by his girlfriend and was transported to a hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia where he later died.
