ACLJ Defends Gilardis’ Produce Company, Beats Down HHS Mandate in Court

Rack up another one for the opponents of the HHS mandate, which forces various religious business-owners to fund birth control/sterilizaton/abortion, in conflict with their conscientiously held religious beliefs.  Lefties Obama and Sebelius have drooled over the prospect of reducing members of socially conservative religious denominations to dhimmitude.  For now, the U.S.  Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia  has dealt them one more blow, ruling in favor of Francis and Philip Gilardi, whose 400-employee companies, Freshway Foods and Freshway Logistics, distribute produce in Ohio and the eastern half of the United States.  The Gilardis are defended by the ACLJ, which is bringing 7 of the 40+ suits which have been filed against Obama’s HHS mandate.

Judge Janice Rogers Brown wrote “It is clear that the government has failed to demonstrate how such a right, whether described as noninterference, privacy or autonomy, can extend to the compelled subsidization of a woman’s procreative practices.”

American Center for Law and Justice senior counsel, Francis J. Manion expressed satisfaction that the appeals court concurred with most of his arguments, but sees it as a partial victory.  The current decision of the appeals court partially reverses the decision of a lower court which denied an injunction against the HHS mandate as it applied to the Gilardis and their companies.  Relief is now granted to the owners, but not to their companies.  Manion writes that he will file a petition for certiorare with the Supreme court to address the injunctive relief and religious freedom  which should be accorded  to the companies, as well as their founders and owners.

At this time, the lefties of the Obama administration are recognizing the religious rights of groups of people if they call themselves churches, but not if they use another name for themselves.  This is the current status of their stepwise removal of religious freedom and  imposition of statism, dhimmitude and slavery.   Similarly, Obamacare itself  represents  a step in the programmed regression  towards single payer, government controlled, socialized medicine.

Sperm Donors Au Naturelle

It’s interesting to see what disturbs the intelligentsia these days, and compare it to what they condone.

There is little  problem with having sex with a 14 year old, and apparently less so if she commits suicide.

There is no problem with hooking up with a stranger as long as you prevent or kill the baby.

We’ve recently been regaled with a compendium of what passes for sexual propriety in our universities, by one Professor Mike Adams.  Displaying nude pics of children where pedophiles are gathering is OK, while stating the opinion that marriage requires a man and woman is not.  That’s just one example found in Adams’ amazing open letter which is really worth the click.

Quite a bit if hand wringing is generated by the practice of meeting a sperm donor online, or through Craigslist, and getting pregnant the usual way. It seems that sleeping with strangers is only a problem if the intention is to make a baby. .

Long lost on the progressives is the idea that with repetition, sex tends to cause babies, (poorly designed birth control methods notwithstanding), and something is very wrong with killing them.

Atheists are screeching about Ball State’s Profs who believe in Intelligent design.

While unable to understand the inherent contradiction in his organization’s name,  (Atheism is a religion),  attorney Andrew Seidel  has focused his efforts to suppress freedom of thought at educational institutions.

Intelligent design involves a belief that God started the creation of things, but it does not specify a mechanism.  Therefore, those who believe in intelligent design may entertain all sorts of scientific…… T H E O R I E S ….about the mechanisms by which things were brought into existence.  (Dogmatist Atheists, please review the term ‘theory’.)
Creationism is a subset of belief,  under the umbrella of the thought  that God started things, and it  generally purports that He is much more involved in the specific steps of formation and maintenance.
Equating Creationism and Intelligent Design, as Andrew Seidel appears to do, demonstrates a good deal of ignorance of religion, science and philosophy.
Freedom of thought and inquiry at universities has certainly been stifled by intolerant and close minded individuals such as Jeffrey Coyne and Andrew Seidel. There is nothing wrong with suggesting to students that a Creator started things.  The default RELIGIOUS belief of atheists, that things are self initiating and self maintaining, has no physically demonstrable basis, and is as much a BELIEF, as intelligent design or creationism.  Any promulgation of the religious belief, that things created themselves, should be under equal  public scrutiny as the suggestions by Ball State’s other intelligent design proponent, Eric Hedin, who is now under “investigation” for his course content.

Professor Gonzalez should not feel that he has to continue restricting his more expansive thoughts on the origins of things to his blog.

Line in the Sand

Pastor Robert Dekker asked city officials in Rehoboth, Delaware to allow him to hold some religious services on the public beach this summer.  He was denied, with the explanation that allowing him to do so would be mixing Church and state.   It has been noted that an Easter sunrise service has been allowed on the property.

Pastor Dekker intends to give a “Line in the Sand” Sermon on the public beach on July 4th, and is promoting the event, to draw attention to state efforts to sequester and limit the free expression of faith.

UPDATE:  A big crowd attended Pastor Dekker’s ‘Line in the Sand’ beach service on Independence day.   Law enforcement allowed it to proceed uninterrupted.

Suppression of Religious Freedom in Obama’s Military

One of the driving forces of a return to the military draft is Obama’s hostility to religious freedom.  The military is the incubator of social experiments, many of which go against the teachings of most major religions.   The increasing incidence of rape in the armed forces, some of which is male on male, indicates the pathology of leftist social policy.  The speech and freedom of conscience of those who do not agree with these kinds of behaviors is being suppressed.  Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel has not shown a tolerance for the freedom of religious expression in the military, and apparently Mikey Weinstein of the “Military Religious Freedom Foundation” has his ear.  Weinstein’s agenda involves anything but religious freedom, with his least favorite denominations being the evangelical Christians.

A major reason for women to avoid service in the Obama military is the threat of rape by fellow military personnel.  Another reason is the pressure to abort in the event of pregnancy.  A third is the disrespect for the right of conscience.

Likewise, men who enter Obama’s very weird military are under similar threats minus the adverse effects that pregnancy could have on their careers.

Currently on tap is an expected Veto from Obama of the Military Defense Authorization Act of 2014, if it contains the amendment by Rep. John Fleming, protecting religious speech of service members.

Part of What’s Wrong with New York is that the Catholic Archdiocese Pays for Birth Control

As U.S. Catholics realize,  their bishops forgot about the birth control and abortion issues for a long time.  The instructional vacuum has hastened the social decline of the U.S.  About halfway through the last decade, under pressure from the Vatican, the bishops started notice that the richest nation in the world also had one of the highest abortion rates.  Another kick an the pants has jolted them to start paying attention to their birth control problem, which contributes to their abortion problem.

The New York Times noted yesterday that NYC’s Archdiocese, had been paying for birth control beginning prior to the time that  the man-who-could-not-be-Pope  took leadership.

We note that NYC also has an abortion rate higher than the rest of the U.S., and rivaling that of China and Russia.  New York City’s own media calls it the “Abortion Capital of America”.

On the Boy Scouts Specifically Admitting Gay Boys

There’s big news about the Boy Scouts admitting gay C H I L D R E N to their organization. First of all, this is strange because the sex preferences should not even be a big deal during childhood. The organization is temporarily excluding gay scout leaders, but this policy will quickly be overturned by including the government oversight by means of a discrimination lawsuit.

Taking this issue on more globally, this burning question needs to be asked: Why does every single group have to concern itself with the sex lives of its members?

When there is a policy to specifically admit people who advertise where they like to put it, then that issue becomes part of the function of the group, and those preferences must be rubber stamped by every member of the group.

Making an issue of everyone’s sex preferences, adds sex as a primary function of every group. Each time sex invades and is placed at the top of group priorities, a new group will have to form which excludes sex as a part of their mission. This kind if segregation will occur until the government makes it illegal to “think” that there is a proper and improper way to have sex.

People are willing to give up every single other freedom in order to have completely unfettered sex practices, ‘whenever and wherever’. This idea of “freedom” has come to include the sexual abuse of children and animals.
The disorder of America, and a major reason that it is in the death spiral is that the sex preferences have become more important than any other aspect of life.

Christians May Not Join the U.S. Military

A new military policy threatens court martial to any service member who spreads their faith or shares it with other service members.  Under discussion is that this policy will also apply to military chaplains, rendering their presence completely moot.

For the time being,  Christians and those of any other evangelical faiths need to avoid signing up to serve in the military.

This egregious violation of civil rights will need to be addressed in the courts.   Meanwhile, the United States is left with diminished defense.

An Islam-Adherent Surgery Center in Chicago

Dr. Naser Rustom wants to build an outpatient  surgical facility in Chicago, which caters to the religious sensibilities of Muslims.  He intends to include general surgery, gastroenterology and pain management specialties within his facility.

This is an idea whose time has come.   Your friendly Pharmer would like to see a whole Muslim friendly Hospital spring up in the U.S.

Why???????

The Government would be afraid to mess with the Muslims or try to force the institution and its practitioners to do things which violate the religious beliefs.

This might help set a new precedent for allowing religious freedom in general.  The Muslims are leading the way in conscientious objection to abortion in Europe.  They might do the same kind of thing here.

The question of the day is……… will a Muslim friendly health care institution find a cost effective substitute for the pork filled injections of heparin?

 

Lifenews: Australian Doc Might Lose License for Refusing Sex Selection Abortion

Victoria, Australia requires physicians to perform an abortion or refer for one whenever asked.   This includes cases in which women want to abort a baby because it’s a girl.

Yes, there is a big leftist war on women going on in Victoria, Australia.

Dr. Mark Hobart, in Melbourne is expecting to have to give up his license to practice medicine because he refused to cooperate in an abortion for a couple because they didn’t want to have a girl.

Hobart refused to give a referral for the sex selection abortion, Hobart has broken the law in his state, and he is expecting suspension or complete loss of his license.

In Victoria, abortion and the state’s war on women trumps any human rights.   Consider this if you have thought of moving to that part of the world.  The remaining medical professionals  are probably of decreasing quality as the ones who balk at killing are being removed from practice.
